INTERSCHOOL SECONDARY

THE McMAHON SHIELD

Each year School Sport WA recognises the best performing schools across the School Sport WA secondary ‘Champion Schools’ endorsed sports competitions. All schools that enter inter school teams receive participation points and those that place in these competitions then earn performance points. For points allocation Click HERE

The ‘Champion Schools’ model is the brainchild of Ian McMahon, a Life Member of both School Sport WA and School Sport Australia. Ian was our President from 1985 -1998.

From 1985 onwards the ‘Champion Schools’ program has steadily grown from just a few secondary sports. It now offers 27 sports to secondary schools and 19 to primary schools, for both girls and boys. School Sport WA organises many of these competitions and works closely with the State Sporting Associations to facilitate others.

The 2016 inaugural winner was Willetton Senior High School and Shenton College in 2017. In 2018 a ‘Tier 2″ McMahon Shield for school under 1200 students was added to this prestigious award.
