Opportunities for Multi Class Athletes

Who is eligible?

A person who has an impairment in body structures and functions that leads to a competitive disadvantage in sport is able to be classified to compete in sport following the Paralympic guidelines.

The three main impairments are;

  • Vision impairment

  • Intellectual impairment

  • Physical impairment

    • Loss of muscle power e.g. spinal cord injury/nerve damage/spina bifida

    • Loss of  range of movement e.g. fused ankle

    • Cerebral Palsy/acquired brain injury

    • Short stature

    • Limb deficiency (amputee) from birth or acquired

    • Limb length difference

Sports for Multi Class Athletes [formerly called Para Athletes] with School Sport WA are;

  • SSWA Track and Field Carnival Thursday 17th – Thurs 25th October 2019
  • All Schools Track & Field Carnival (see Athletics WA)
  • SSWA Cross Country 
    • Secondary Cross Country – Friday, 17th May  2019
    • Primary Cross Country – Friday, 9th August 2019
  • School Sport Australia Swimming Championships – Melbourne, Victoria
    • Secondary (13 – 19 years) – Saturday 27th July – Wednesday 31st July 2019
    • Primary (10 – 12 years) – Wednesday 31st July – Friday 2nd August 2019
  • Goalball – (see Goalball WA )
  • Boccia – (see Boccia WA)
  • Table Tennis – TBA

 

Classifications

Vision Impairment – Athletics Australia or Athletics WA

Intellectual Impairment – Sport Inclusion Australia (formally Ausrapid)

Physical Impairment – Wheelchair Sports WA (Rebound WA)
