Trial Details

Swimming

Students are strongly encouraged to enter the Swimming WA Schools Association Meet on Sunday 30th March at Challenge Stadium.  Enter online at wa.swimming.org.au/schools

 

1)  Places on the team will be prioritized to the athletes that perform best at this trial and who subsequently indicate their interest by completing the School Sport WA online nomination form, on the above nomination tab before the deadline.

 

2) Should there be any vacancies on the team after these trial performances have been taken into account, they will be offered to the next highest seeded athletes who have also completed the online nomination, but did not attend the trial.

 

Accredited times will need to be provided with your nomination from

  • Approved WA Swimming Association events (Long Course) Other officially recognised events (e.g. SSWA, IGSSA, PSA, ACC, SWISSA carnivals)

Only long course times achieved since 1 October 2013.

No converted short course times will be accepted.

 

Diving

Events to be considered in selection process

  • State Age Championships
  • School State Championships

Selection criteria  

  • Nomination to be completed on the SSWA website 
  • 3 divers max selected in each age group.    
    • 3 boys max
    • 3 girls max
    • If strong interest is shown in one particular age group Divers will be asked to dive up an age group to allow maximum participation in the Championships.
  • Placing at lead up events to be considered are.    
    • WA State Age Championships
    • WA State School Championships
  • 1st place gets automatically selected.
  • Points score is a consideration over the required dives for each age group.
  • Selection of team by panel in April, after completion of selection events.

Eligibility To be eligible for selection students must:
  1. Be a full time student at a DoE recognised educational institution.
  2. Be  12 years or 19 and under, as at the 31 December in the year of competition.

Swimming Interstate Team Selection Policy

 

Selectors

  • The School Sport WA (SSWA) swimming committee will appoint selectors to undertake the process for State Team involvement.
  • The SSWA swimming committee will appoint a Chair of Selectors.

Prior to Team Selection

  • Selectors meet to discuss team selection criteria.
  • Team selection criteria as listed will be adhered to in all cases except where exceptional circumstances may prevail.

Trial Platforms

  • Approved WA Official School Carnival events ( Long Course)
  • Only long course times achieved since 1st October 2013 will be accepted.
  • No converted short course times will be accepted.

Note: An officially recognised event refers to a bona fide swimming competition where all times can, if required, be officially endorsed.

Selection Process

  • The SSWA swimming committee will review the selection criteria and post them on the SSWA website.
  • Championship events will be listed on the SSWA website.
  • Ages are taken as at 31 December in the year of competition.
  • A nomination form will be available on the SSWA website.
  • Prospective team members must complete the official nomination form in full and submit on, or prior to, the prescribed date.
  • Late nominations, due to exceptional circumstances, may be considered but not necessarily accepted.
  • Team selection will be based on qualifying times for all events to match the School Sport Australia National Championship program.
  • The top two (2) qualifiers within the team will contest individual events.
  • The top four (4) qualifiers within the team will contest the relays.
  • Team members will be required to adhere to all SSWA Policies and Processes with regard team preparation and presentation.
  • Team membership will be confirmed within seven days providing all necessary procedures have been completed.
  • Should a team member withdraw prior to the Championship the selection committee may select a replacement swimmer from the existing team or from other nominees.
  • Rules for Multi-class – 150% for age classification and stroke.

Diving Interstate Team Selection Policy

Selectors

  • The School Sport WA (SSWA) swimming and diving committee will appoint selectors to undertake the process for State Team involvement.
  • The SSWA swimming and diving committee will appoint a Chair of Selectors.
  • Panel to consist of:  Diving Coach,Team Manager [if appointed],1 independent person appointed by the committee

Prior to Team Selection

  • Selectors meet to discuss team selection criteria.
  • Team selection criteria as listed will be adhered to in all cases except where exceptional circumstances may prevail.

Trial Events

Students will be required to participate in the following two events to be considered for selection:

  • State Age Championships
  • SchoolState Championships

  • School Sport Australia Championship events will be listed on the SSWA website.
  • Ages are taken as at 31 December in the year of competition.

  • First place at the two selection events gains automatic selection in the team.

  • Team membership will be confirmed within seven days providing all necessary procedures have been completed.

SSWA is contracted by the Department of Education through a Grant Agreement to provide sport experiences and opportunities for all students in WA schools.

 

The Grant Agreement with the Department of Education requires SSWA to:

  • Maintain appropriate insurances in relation to the provision of the service
  • Ensure that compulsory criminal record checks have been completed on all volunteers and employees
  • Conduct off school site activities in accordance with the DoE Excursions: Off School Site Activities Policy
