THERE WILL BE NO SWIMMING SELECTION TRIALS THIS YEAR.

SWIMMERS HAVE TO NOMINATE ON-LINE FOR SELECTION CONSIDERATION

 

The team will be selected using nominated times (see details regarding accredited times below). You will be notified if you are on the team by TBA.  Once offers of places have been accepted SSWA coaches will then organise swimming training sessions for later in the year.

 

Students are to nominate for events online, on the above nomination tab.

Accredited times will only need to be provided with your nomination form if they are from non-Swimming WA official events.  Approved events include Swimming WA official events, and the following events: SSWA, IGSSA, PSA, ACC, SWISSA carnivals.

 

Only long course times achieved since TBA will be accepted (no converted short course times will be accepted).

 

Eligibility To be eligible for selection students must:
  1. Be a full time student at a DoE recognised educational institution.
  2. Be aged 10 year+ or 19 and under, as at the 31 December in the year of competition.

** Please note that competitors aged either 10 or 11 (as of 31 December in the year of competition) will be permitted to participate, with the additional stipulation that a parent or nominated guardian must accompany them for the duration of the Championship.  SSWA reserves the right to withdraw this team from the SSA Championship if insufficient numbers of students are selected in the team.

Selection Policy

Swimming Interstate Team Selection Policy

Selectors

  • The School Sport WA (SSWA) swimming committee will appoint selectors to undertake the process of selecting the State team.

  Selection Process

  • Team selection criteria listed will be adhered to in all cases, except where exceptional circumstances may prevail.
  • Championship events will be listed on the SSWA website, once they are made available.
  • Ages are taken as at 31 December in the year of competition.
  • Ages 10-19
  • Prospective competitors MUST nominate via online form on the SSWA website.
  • Prospective team members must complete the official online nomination in full and submit on, or prior to, the prescribed date.
  • Late nominations will not be accepted.
  • Team selection will be based on Long Course times only taken from 1st December 2015.  For non SWA times nominees may be asked to produce evidence of times. Times from SWA official events will be confirmed by the selectors after the close of nominations.  Hence they do not need to be entered, or updated if subsequent faster times are achieved.
  • SSWA reserves the right to limit the overall team size.
  • All swimmers will be considered for individual events,  consideration will also be given to the resulting full team size.
  • Team members will be required to adhere to all SSWA Policies and Processes. 
  • Team membership offers will be made two (2) weeks after close of nominations.  Swimmers will then be advised of the procedures to be followed to formally accept such an offer.
  • Should a team member withdraw prior to the Championship, the selections committee may select a replacement swimmer from the existing team or from other nominees.

 

  • Rules for Multi-class – Must meet a qualifying time of 150% of the World Record for their classification and event. Other times may be considered, but not necessarily accepted

Diving Interstate Team Selection Policy

 

  • Selectors

    • The School Sport WA (SSWA) swimming and diving committee will appoint selectors to undertake the process for State Team involvement.
    • The SSWA swimming and diving committee will appoint a Chair of Selectors.
    • Panel to consist of: Diving Coach/es, Team Manager [if appointed] and 1 independent person appointed by the committee

    Prior to Team Selection

    • Selectors meet to discuss team selection criteria.
    • Team selection criteria as listed will be adhered to in all cases except where exceptional circumstances may prevail.

    Trial Events

    • Students will be required to nominate for team selection via the online form on the SSWA website by the required date
      • There will be no cost for nominations.
      • The trial event for selection onto this team will be held on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th May 2017.
        • DWA Event Entry Fees will apply and be published when registrations open
        • Students will be required to participate in either of the following two events on these dates to be considered for selection:
          • Pacific School Games Trial; or
          • Diving WA Elite Junior Championships (Jnr A, B or C events only)

    Selection Process

    • Prospective team members must complete and submit the official online nomination form by the required date.
      • Late nominations, due to exceptional circumstances, may be considered but not necessarily accepted.
      • Prospective team members must enter and compete in all events they nominate for at the Trial events to be considered.
        • Students that are unable to compete due to exceptional circumstances may be considered, but not necessarily accepted, based on their most recent State, National or other Qualification Event.
        • Team selection will be based on selecting up to 3 divers per event in each age group and sex, as per the published rules for the 2017 Pacific School Games.
        • The first placed diver in each event of the trial will gain automatic selection onto the team.
        • The remaining positions will then be selected from the nominated divers at the discretion of the selectors; based on performances at the trial and with the purpose of maximising the opportunities within the team.
        • If any positions on the team remain unfilled, or become vacant at any time (due to withdrawals etc), the selectors may use their discretion to select alternative suitable divers to fill those spaces.
        • Team membership will be confirmed Friday 26th May 2017, providing all necessary procedures have been completed.

    After Team Selection

    • Team members will be required to adhere to all SSWA Policies and Processes with regard to team preparation and presentation including attendance at all compulsory team meetings.

SSWA is contracted by the Department of Education through a Grant Agreement to provide sport experiences and opportunities for all students in WA schools.

 

The Grant Agreement with the Department of Education requires SSWA to:

  • Maintain appropriate insurances in relation to the provision of the service
  • Ensure that compulsory criminal record checks have been completed on all volunteers and employees
  • Conduct off school site activities in accordance with the DoE Excursions: Off School Site Activities Policy
