Opportunities for Multi Class Athletes

Who is eligible?

A person who has an impairment in body structures and functions that leads to a competitive disadvantage in sport is able to be classified to compete in sport following the Paralympic guidelines.

 

The three main impairments are;

  1. Vision impairment

  2. Intellectual impairment

  3. Physical impairment

    • Loss of muscle power e.g. spinal cord injury/nerve damage/spina bifida

    • Loss of  range of movement e.g. fused ankle

    • Cerebral Palsy/acquired brain injury

    • Short stature

    • Limb deficiency (amputee) from birth or acquired

    • Limb length difference

 

Sports for Multi Class Athletes [formerly called Para Athletes] with School Sport W.A. are;

  • SSWA Track and Field Carnival Thursday 12th – Thurs 19th October 2017
  • All Schools Track & Field Carnival (see Athletics WA website)
  • SSWA Cross Country – Secondary Cross Country – Friday, 19th May 2017

                                           Primary Cross Country – Fri, 11th August 2017

  • All Schools Swimming Carnival (see Swimming WA website)
  • School Sport Australia Swimming Championships – PSG Adelaide – Friday 1st December – Sunday 10th December 2017
  • Goalball – PSG Adelaide – Friday 1st December – Sunday 10th December 2017
  • Boccia – TBC - Melville Recreation Centre – 9.30am start time.
  • Table Tennis – TBC

Vision Impairment – AA website; also Athletics WA website

Intellectual Impairment – Inclusion Australia (formally Ausrapid)

Physical Impairment – Wheelchair Sports WA
