Trial Specifics

Trials commence at 4.00pm

To be eligible for selection students must:

• Be a full time student at a recognised DET educational institution.

• Be 19 years and under as at the 31 December 2009.

• Have permission of the school Principal to nominate for the trials.

GENERAL ELIGIBILITY

• Students who are selected to play in the Pizzey Cup will not be allowed to compete in any tournament played at the same time as the Championships.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS

The SSWA Pizzey Cup team will consist of eight boys and eight girls. 

• The selection committee will comprise representatives from the SSWA team officials and Tennis West

• All students must formally nominate to be considered for selection

• Of those who nominate, the four boys and four girls who have the highest Australian ranking as of 30 November will gain automatic selection into the team.

• A trial event will determine the remaining four boys and four girls.

• The trial event is a round robin format with four boy’s pools and four girl’s pools.  The winner of each pool will gain selection into the team.

• The selection committee will determine the round robin pools.

• The selection committee reserves the right to include players in extenuating circumstances who may not meet established selection criteria.

• Players who miss the trial event due to extenuating circumstances will be placed in a round robin Challenge Pool, to be played in February 2008. The winner of the Challenge Pool then has the right to challenge the lowest ranked (based on Australian rankings at the time of the trials) team member for a spot in the team. All challenges will be played at Alexander Park TC and will be the best of three tie break sets.

• If the lowest ranked Pizzey Cup team member is challenged and is beaten, that player will be the first reserve for the WA team or the first player chosen for the invitation team.

Nomination Criteria for Trial Event

• Nominations must be received by the Pizzey Cup coach on the official School Sport WA nomination form at least seven days prior to the commencement date of the trial event.
