Competition Details: PRELIMINARY GRADE REQUESTS

Background

The principal purpose of this event is to provide country students with the opportunity to participate in peer competition in an educational context.  Schools should consider carefully their request for grades based on their size and relative abilities which may vary from year to year.  It is not the events philosophy to “win at all cost” but rather to compete in a friendly environment that provides equity of opportunity for all.

General Guidelines

  1. If the school has a team that plays in regular local competition, either at a school or community level they should aim for the highest grade

  2.  If the majority of team members play in regular competition in that sport then they should be nominated at the highest level.

  3. If, as a prelude to this competition, a school has played trial games against teams who are competing at country week and who are nominated in a higher grade then, if successful, they should renominate to a higher grade.

  4. Schools that have a comparatively large school population and hence a wider range of choice for team selection should nominate to higher grades.

  5. Schools who are likely to select a physically mature team should nominate to a higher grade.

Special Note:  The 9 a side football competition is designed to cater for smaller schools not larger schools who can field a majority of players at the year 10 level.  If a larger school nominates for the nine a side competition then the grading committee may not accept the nomination.
