Freo Dockers Shield Information

Primary schools have been participating in Lightning Carnivals for many years and these carnivals have either been organised by the schools themselves or by the local WAFL Football Club, in conjunction with the WAFC and Fremantle Dockers Football Club.

The WAFC would like to see all primary schools involved in at least one Freo Dockers Shield Lightning Carnival in 2012 and will be actively supporting both types of carnivals mentioned above.

This year we will continue to assist traditional winter sports carnivals that are conducted in divisions or regions (ie same as the athletics or swimming carnival divisions) and organised by the school staff.

If schools do not have an opportunity to participate in a Fremantle Dockers Football Club carnival and would like to, we would ask you to contact your local WAFC Football Development Staff Member and they will be able to assist in the organisation of one for your school.

Competition Specifics: Freo Dockers Shield

Guidelines

In order to maintain consistency and to develop the accepted philosophies, we would ask that the following guidelines are applied to the football component of the carnival.

 1.   The games are played under the “AFL Junior Rules” for children aged 11 and 12 years.

2.   The Freo Dockers Shield to be awarded to the school that accumulates the most points based on the following criteria:

Game:          Win                              3 points

                    Draw                            2 Points

                    Lose                             1 point

Uniform:       Score out of 3

Behaviour    Score out of 3     (On and off the field)

1 point deducted for each player sent off the field

Emphasis on enjoyment, participation and skill learning

Benefits:

If your school participates in a traditional winter sports carnival in which football is played, we would appreciate contacting WAFC Football Development Officer by Thursday 29 March 2012. In this way we can plan the year and prepare equipment and resources. Please note: Coordinators should contact their WAFC Football Development Officer to organise umpire support. The District will endeavor to provide umpires but this may not be possible for all carnivals.

We will be offering the following benefits to schools if they agree to play under the Freo Dockers Shield Lightning Carnival format.

1.  A Freo Dockers Shield will be awarded to each division winner.

2.  (If available) WAFL players to umpire the games and assist with the presentations.

3.   Participation certificates and posters for all participants

4.   Two Freo Dockers Shield training balls
