Champion Schools Competition

WA Schoolgirls Have a League Of Their Own

More than 2000 female secondary school students are taking to the football field following the commencement of Term 2, with the WAFC Schoolgirls Cup kicking off in 60 participating schools.

This year’s competition will see students compete in two divisions of the program with a finals series concluding on July 1st when qualifying schools will battle it out for the Alison Moore and Debbie White Division Cups.

Until recently, girls have had limited opportunities to pursue their interest in the sport of Australian Football. The main aim of the secondary girls’ competition is to provide a wide range of experiences to girls, who would not otherwise have the chance to be involved in the sport.

In particular, participation in the school competition will be an important step for girls to become involved in the senior women’s football competitions.

It’s interesting to note that the girls’ football competition was established way back in 1996 with the aims to:

  • Provide an alternative sport for girls

  • Promote girls in sport

  • Promote a healthy lifestyle

  • Enhance school / community links

  • Play with peers

  • Build school pride

The WAFC and School Sport WA are proud to support the WAFC Schoolgirls Cup program and wish all players coaches and volunteers the best of luck in this Year’s WAFC Schoolgirls competition.

WAFC SCHOOLGIRLS CUP

The WAFC Schoolgirls Cup is entering its 17th year and is coordinated by the West Australian Football Commission and the Schoolgirls Advisory Committee.

Competition Format

There are five metropolitan regions - North West, North East, South West and Peel.  Run across 2 metropolitan divisions (Moore & White).

The Schoolgirls Committee reviews all nominations and reserves the right to change the division that a school hay have nominated for to achieve a balanced competition across all divisions.

Country Schools - All competitions/carnivals are coordinated by your Development Officer.  Schools will be advised of their allocated carnival day/s by the end of Term 1.

Alison Moore Division (A Grade) is for strong football schools seeking quality competition with games played across regions.

Debbie White Division (B Grade) is where the majority of schools compete.  Teams are split into regional pools to pay against other schools in their 'local" area.  After the home and away games the top teams will go into a finals round.

Vanderweide Division is only for schools who participate in "A" section at SHS Country Week.

Length of Competition

The competition is played during Term 2.  Games are played after school on TUESDAYS over 2 x 20 minute halves.  (Please refer to timeline).  Please nominate online at http://www.wafooty.com.au/form/schoolgirlscup10-11-12/register
