Can anyone apply to become a coach or manager of a School Sport WA State team?

It is preferred that coaches and mangers of school teams are school teachers.

However, in some cases this is not possible and in that case the State Sporting Organisation will be asked to recommend an applicant for consideration.

Teachers from any sector are welcome to apply.

Is there any preference given to any applicants for interstate coach /manager positions and if so why?

If a person is interested in becoming a state coach or manager then they are encouraged to become involved with School Sport WA at an organising committee level.

Contact with the School Sport WA office will provide information about joining a committee.

If selected in a School Sport WA state team does it cost money to represent my state?

Yes. School Sport WA is a non profit organisation.

Like all junior state teams it relies on assistance from various sources. In this case, from the Education Department, State Sporting Organisations and sponsors.

Team officials' expenses are not included in the team levy and fund raising opportunities are available. Prices are kept to a minimum with each team manager being required to prepare and present a budget.

Is there any organised fundraising for Interstate Teams?

Yes. All students have access to a raffle that will net them $370. Individual Sports may choose to organise sports specific fundraising or sponsorships.

How do I get information about state teams and trials?

Each school is sent a poster that lists state teams information including team management contact details, dates and trials information.

This information is also contained within this web site under the sport name.

An approach to your Physical Education staff should result in you being able to get the necessary forms or you can contact the School Sport WA Office or the contact named directly. In many cases the State Sporting Organisation will also have the relevant information.

When is age eligibility taken for School Sport WA events?

In most cases the date is taken as December 31 in the year of competition.

This may vary at the interstate level and can be determined by looking at the nomination sheet for that sport.

See the Sports section of this website.

Can I use Frequent Flyer points that I have accumulated for interstate travel?

Frequent Flyer points can be used, subject to availability of seats on the same flight that the rest of the team travels on. Team members using Frequent Flyer rewards must notify the School Sport WA office so that alterations can be made to the flight booking.

When teams travel are students able to stay with parents or interstate friends and relations?

Yes. Students may stay with parents or a nominated guardian on the condition that they and the parents/gaurdians must comply with conditions laid down by the team manager and School Sport WA.

What is the preferred method of accommodation on interstate trips?

Paid accommodation is the preferred method of accommodation all interstate teams.  Paid accommodation costs are kept to a minimum.

If the Code of Behaviour is contravened what will happen?

If serious enough the student may be sent home at the parents' expense. Parental notification will be immediate.

If the offence is not serious enough to warrant being sent home, then the parents will be notified of the misbehaviour as will the student's school and the State Sporting Organisation on return.

The team manager may impose sanctions at a local level.

When must I have all monies paid for the interstate trip?

A deposit must be paid within one week of the team parent night.

All remaining monies must be paid two weeks prior to departure.

Deposit is non refundable unless in exceptional circumstances.
